Hi Eric,
It really sounds to me like your GM ALt. is not of the internally
regulated variety. Or the internal regulator is shot. It sounds like its
going straight to full output as soon as it 'turns on'.
Don't know how you have it wired up but it should not blow an
y fuses. If you are runing it into the wiring harness like the old
alt. then run it through a 35 amp fuse. You should also be running a
heavy duty cable to the (+) term on the on the alt to the + term on the batt
and an equally heavy duty cable from the alt body to the (-) term on the batt.
I have been running this exact same setup with 300watts of stereo and
400 watts of driving lights and the voltage at the batt never reads below
14V. Course I bought an 'expensive' chromed 100amp self exciting
self-regulating
one wire alt from Summit Racing (118 bucks, youi can buy a black one for ~75).
And its worked fine from the moment that I mounted it correctly. Pretty sure
it even regulates a LOT better than the stock unit.
