Hello list. Had a productive weekend. Found my temp gauge and sender work-
but need to be grounded better- thanks for all those posts on that subject.
Replaced brake and radiator hoses, flushed both. My pads and most everything
was in suprisingly good shape. Bleeders loosened with minimal effort and
had only minor rust on them. But a few things are not quite right.
Brakes: Rear lock up first, and it takes quite a lot of pressure at the
pedal to do so. The front should lock first right? What adjustments are
available? What should I check?
My father in law adjusted the play out of the steering while I was getting a
new radiatior plug at the local parts store (always funny when the parts kid
wants to check the computer for reference- if they cant find the car in the
computer, they seem to freeze up, "69 2000? Is it a SX 2000?") But
anyway... The play is gone, but it gets tight when turning to the right,
but is easy going to the left. Any ideas?
Rear brake drum- it has been scraping on the backing plate. I can hear it
now when turning, but I never heard it before- but it had signs of wear.
Any thoughts?
The "death rattle". Does this happen when starting- then go away after a
few seconds? If so, any body have any new gears and chains that we could
wheel and deal on for bicycle parts? I have instructions on how to check
the chains for wear from Gordon, but I haven't had time yet.
Those dealer instaled rims that have been the hot topic lately. I have
them. I found spacers on the front wheels- one looks factory- one is not.
Are these manditory?
Took it out for a test drive- ran out of gas AGAIN (got to get that gauge
working!) After a refill, I was doing 70 down a 2 lane country road in
sunny 85° temps with no shimmy- wobble or rattle. I am totally hooked now.
