Hi there Roadsterphiles-
Been a while (c. Dec) since I've been here, hope everything is
still going well... in my absence, I acquired a 521 pickup and
installed a LZ22 in it - we named it The Hulk, and it's living
up to the title=8-)
Still have my '69 2000, and (with a little help from my friends)
got the engine and trans out of it last weekend. (BTW, I hear
the little devil guy on my shoulder demanding an engine swap;-)
It suffered a few fatal blows, one was my dog trying to downshift
from 5th to 1st for me (doh!), the other feels like a broken 1-2
shifter pin. Before I lost 1st and 2nd, the gears were really
krunchy and rough feeling, so I'm betting I broke a gear tooth or
something along those lines.
I've got the factory manual with the 2000 supplement - it's
hysterical to read about dismounting the transmission inner outer
striking rod fixing shaft pin bolts.... <LOL> but I think I can
make my way through it okay... couple questions-
1) what sort of snap ring pliers will I need? Can I get by with
one pair?
2) it looks like I can pull the case apart before I need those
pliers, right?
3) who's gonna sell me a rebuild kit, gear(s?), and necessary
bearings?
Thanks in advance for any help as I try to get this rascal on the
road!
ps - I'm also going to partially disassemble the engine, to look
at the timing chains and guides, and put a new head gasket on it;
any required reading you can point me to?
TIA, again!
