With the oem 2L pistons and a new r16 head, your compression would have been
right around 7.5:1. That and the water probably probably helped it survive.
No one asked, but if I were going to do a turbo roadster motor,
I would do a stroker R20, with forged pistons, and the biggest valves that
could fit into the head and run water/efi. I would be tempted to try
the iron head and no o-rings, since they don't have many gasket
problems.
No, it wouldn't make the peak power of a turbo U, but it would have
all the torque, and would be one bulletproof little 2L.
