I lived in the Colorado Springs for 13 years and July IS Summer there. Gets
warmer before, gets cooler after. Not to mention the fact that you can drive
the route of the Pikes Peak hillclimb, nice drive to Cripple Creek to
gamble(if you wish), great photo ops at the Garden of the Gods, Rocky Mt
National Park about 2 hrs, lots of campgrounds, hotels, etc, and much more!
Also it is Centrally located. Sort of.
Okay, I've got friends I'd like to vist. Still it's a good choice.
