Fred was exactly right. Now I have to figure out if there is something wrong
with the chain as there were two of those things in the oil pan. I'll ask
the PO if he had enough when he did the chain replacement. The car sounded
OK when it was running, for what it worth.

I copied an old gasket by stenciling it on a sheet of gasket material. You
can buy a package of various thicknesses and material types for under $10,
and make your own gaskets.
So if ever you accidentally drop one into your oil pan, you can easily make
another! Just don't drop the tensioner itself into the oil pan, that
creates real problems! (And not just because it's hard to make a copy.)
