Interesting thread here. From Michael Carion's calendar, here are the speed
rates (in mph) for the 1600 and 2000.
1600 2000
1st (6000) 32 30
2nd (6000) 55 60
3rd (6000) 84 90
4th (5500) 101 120
5th 122
0-60 mph 13.3 sec 10.2 sec
1/4 mile 19.9 sec 17.3 sec
Harry going beyond the redline at 7100 rpm's and hitting 100 mph in 3rd gear,
Mark's tach tracking 1 to 1 for 2nd gear, and Mike hitting 105 mph in his 1600
are in line with these numbers.
I'm guessing that for 4th gear to be faster than 5th gear, one would be driving
like Harry and well into the red zone??
For the 2000, the chart didn't list rpm's so I've assumed they're the same as
the 1600. From these numbers, you can see how the rear ends (1600 w/ 3.89, 2000
w/ 3.70) play a big part in the difference in speed. I'm curious, does anyone
have any figures for a 2000 with a 3.89 (4.11) or say a 1600 with a 5 speed? Or
what would be the elapsed time difference for the solex car? It would be neat
to have these variables in a web page somewhere.
