Last night I dismantled my console. The PO had reupholstered the console
with a cheap blue vinyl and foam. The ash tray/lighter platform had been
spray painted silver. Underneath the spary paint the surface is lightly
pitted from rust. The underside of the console is thickly covered with
surface rust. My questions are:
How can I remove the pits? The steel wool I was using last night was making
a modest impact.
How can I repaint the metal parts of the console in such a fashion that it
looks well done (read: professional) but is economical? I'm thinking a
semi-glossy black.
Who has rebuilt the console locking lid, how did you do it, are you pleased
with how it turned out, what would you do differently in retrospect?
Is there an aftermarket cigarette lighter I can use to replace the current
nonfunctioning lighter?
