Oh man...
I had to spout off about Michael's fun day at Thunderhill... seems
that Car-ma is in full effect...
Last night, on the way home, while wrestling my dog off my lap, I
downshifted (or attempted to;-) from fifth to _first_. Doh!
Krunch! Made a nasty noise, I said "Oh [expletive]!", and went into
third (the original intent).
Now first gear, always a little notchy to get in gear, makes a
cyclical crunching kind of noise - call it 85% vibration, 15% noise.
It feels like I might have broke/bent a tooth on a gear in there
somewhere.... Second gear, whose synchro has been on hiatus since I
brought the car home, makes a similar (maybe worse) noise/vibration.
Guess it's time to pull the trans. Once Indian Summer passes, that
is:-)
Do my symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Any harm in driving the
car another hundred miles or so before R&R? Any write-ups re:
trannies and their maladies that I can access? (BTW, it's what I
heard referred to as a "Warner-type" trans, '69 2000)
TIA
