we'd been in touch with our friends in florida daily, concerned for
the fury of Floyd. they did the storm shutters, bought a generator,
put up plywood....all were relieved when the storm passed and they
only had some small branches down. then last night, around 9:30, I
heard a real loud thump outside. we were having gusts up to around
70mph. went out to see my ford pickup looking like a lowrider, with
the front end way down and a 70' pine tree lying across the hood. it
had collected a couple small apple trees on the way down, and had
also managed to cave in the roof of my next door neighbor's new
contour. my roadster, parked in front of the truck, was only visible
from the windshield back. front end all covered with branches, leaves,
and pine boughs. AAAAAHHHHHHHH......luckily, the roadster was OK
and I was able to back it out from under the debris. not so good for
the truck, but won't be able to tell how bad until we get the tree
off. no problem. heck, it's only a ford pickup- wouldn't have felt
the same if it landed on the roadster. :-)
