I have a 70 1600 with the usual overheating problems. While the engine
is out to replace the clutch, I'm planning to backflush it, pop some
freeze plugs to see if there is any sludge to be removed, recore the
radiator, replace the 190 thermostat with a 180, and install a new
pressure cap for the overflow tank.
It still has the OEM thermostatic fan, which was recently worked on by a
dealer, who installed a new floating spacer. (I checked the fan's
thermostat--it works.) Question: Would I be better off to replace the
fan with the new solid spacer type and just ditch the whole OEM
mechanism?
