Does it spew right away?  If you start it cold with the cap off (recovery 
tank)
do bubbles come into it or if you hold your hand over it does pressure
quickly build up in it?  If so then the spew factor is most probably
caused by bad head gasket.  Any traces of oil in the coolant, or
coolant in the oil are some other tip offs that the various fluids and
gasses are not keeping to the places where they were designed
to be.
