I think an all original Roadster, or any Datsun for that matter, is a fine
car. But to get upset about someone modifying a car seems a bit pretentious.
I have dealt with this issue personally after putting the FJ20 into my 67.5.
Several people have said that I "bastardized" the car, even one of the guys
at Nissan Motorsports. Something that many seem to overlook is the fact that
not too many transplants are irreversible. Mine, for example, can be changed
back in a weekend if so desired. And lets be honest here too, a Roadster is
not the same as a '63 split window 'vette. While our cars do appear to be
declining in numbers, as long as they are kept alive and running I don't care
what powers them. And this is not an easy thing for me to say either. While
I have performed motor swaps on all my cars, I believe in keeping it Nissan.
I personally would never consider dropping an American or English motor into
my cars. But thats my preference. I'm not going to lecture another
enthusiast on what is "right or wrong" based on my opinions. All that really
matters when it comes down is if the owner enjoys his/her car. Not if others
give their approval.
