Both of my trailers are "home made" and similar in construction. They have a
steel 4x4 tongue and 2x2 frame - four 2x2 front to back (one on each side of
ramp/beds), with 5 or 6 cross members (also 2x2). I then have two 8" vertical
2x2 members on the outside rails, about three feet apart, close to the
location of the spring shackles.
Then I ran 2x2 from the front corner, over the two vertical members and then
down to the rear corners. This really adds strength and prevents flexing of
trailer over the axle (which acts as a fulcrum)
My ramps/deck are heavy wire mesh.
Easy and light construction, and works well.
