I have used Wenol metal polish with success.  It gives the plastic a nice 
glow and is not difficult to do by hand.  I have not used a buffer with it 
though.  I can tell you that when I worked for a jeweler, we used the 
buffing wheel and the same rouge that we used for gold when we polished 
plastic watch crystals.  I have no doubt that it would work for that as 
well.
