Daniel,
        I'd vote for a worn distributor IF there's no sign of the engine being
HOT when the run-on occurs, (like, you just blasted off the freeway and
switched off)  "Dieseling" is kind of like predetonation, in that
there's something in your engine hot enuf to act like a spark plug.  It
can be carbon, or just parts of the head or valves that are getting too
hot.  It happens more in higher-compression engines...
        But yeah, if nothing else is changing, a worn dist (or broken or weak
advance springs) can cause the timing to be erratic, drifting late
sometimes, and heating the engine more than usual.
