Daniel, Nothing you can do with starter on the car. Do you also have the problem of the starter spinning but not engaging? That would suggest the pinion gear is binding on the shaft. Time to rebuild or replace the starter. Do not neglect to rehook the ground strap (engine to frame) while you're in there. Doing so will cause a slow cranking starter and poor running.
