Excerpts from the Lienert Report 01/15/99
...To cap off the current round of rumors, DaimlerChrysler, which has been
eyeballing the acquisition of Japanese heavy-truck producer Nissan Diesel, now
says it may consider taking an ownership position in the parent company,
Nissan Motor Corp. The No. 2 Japanese automaker is burdened with more than $30
billion in debt, and has been watching Honda nipping at its heels in Japan for
the past several years. Analysts say a possible DaimlerChryslerNissan
triumvirate would unite the companies' various strengths on several
continents, including Asia and South America, forging a truly global company
that would rival Ford and General Motors for leadership status.
