Leaf Springs

What's the best way to refinish a pair of leaf springs?  Mine function
ok, but they are rusty!  Seems like if you sandblast and paint, the
paint would rub off quickly.  I've been told some people use teflon
strips between the springs?  What do they do on new cars??  I would like
to fix mine up instead of buying a new set.
