A dumb wheel bolt circle question

Rod,
Do those Italian brand wheels (BWA?) that were used on your Elan race car fit 
because they were actually *available* in our familiar 4 on 3-3/4 pattern?  

Or, is the 4 on 98mm pattern found on many Fiats and Lancias close enough 
that it can be made to work using offset bushings or the like?
