Hi, Pete, From the surface where the starter mounts to the
forward surface of the ring gear on my 4.6L Rover engine
is 43.0-44.0mm. The ring gear itself is about 9-9.5mm thick.
>From the rear face of block to the flywheel surface is about
21.5-22.0mm. All dims are eyeballed! :-)
