First of all let me say that I know nothing about hydraulic lifters.
Having said that I suspect I have a bad one!
On my 1980 tr8 I am experiencing a tapping noise when hot, which comes
and goes. Sometimes it will get noisy on acceleration or deceleration
and then if I use a constant throttle the noise will go away. At first
I thought it might be a rod end bearing, but the noise is intermittent
, I would'nt expect that of a rod bearing.
So my questions to the list:
Does this sound like a lifter problem ?
Is there a way to isolate the bad lifter?
If so, what is the fix (replacement lifter, or maybe oversize) ?
I would appreciate any input, as I have never worked on an engine before
with hydraulic lifters, and this is mystery to me.
TIA
steve
