Hello all.
Recently, I had put in a new transmission (well, new gearing, old
bellhousing, gear casing, and rear extension) and clutch in my '73
Triumph GT6. It runs fine and stuff, and feels EXCELLENT, but in 2nd
and 3rd gear, only when accelerating, it makes a "weening" sound. It
sounds as if the throwout bearing is shot, but it's brand new - I'm
ruling out the possibility that it's broken. However, the clutch drive
plate, driven plate, and the bearing are all new, and I was thinking
that perhaps they might need time to be "broken in". Could it be
possible that the lube inside the throwout bearing might not have
propagated throughout the entire bearing yet, and I should give it
another couple days of driving?
Another theory that I have is this: When 2-3rd gear is engaged, the
mainshaft is pressed towards the clutch apparatus, including the
bearing, which may be causing the bearing to be pushed a bit, which
might throw the bearing off-center.
I don't know what's wrong, really. I'm concerned about the bearing
itself, not necessarily the gearbox. I am quite positive that the
gearbox is fine.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them tremendously. I'm new
to this list, so try to make a good impression on me :)
Thanks for the time
