making a cheap static timing light...VW/Bosch distributers have a built-in 
retard for
the #3 cylinder (at least for the upright/beetle engines); the type 4 engines 
don't have
the problem because the oil cooler is no longer in the way of the air 
cooling. Anti-seize
on the plugs should be used sparingly, since the plugs ground through the 
threads...In-
serting a steel threaded plug into an alloy head is always a problem - 
Careful with that
spanner, Eugene! - Try nickel-based anti-seize from the plumbing supply 
house...
