The Meadow Brook Hall Concours d'Elegance sponsored by Ford Motor Company
will take place Sunday, August 6, on the grounds of the great auto baron
(John Dodge) mansion, Meadow Brook Hall, at Oakland University in Rochester,
Michigan. Featuring more than 250 fabulous antique and classic automobiles
from around the world, it is the culminating event of a full week of exciting
activities celebrating the beauty and art of the automobile.
MEADOW BROOK HALL is the former residence of Oakland University founders,
Matilda Dodge Wilson, widow of automobile pioneer John Dodge, and her second
husband, Alfred G. Wilson. Built between 1926 and 1929 at the cost of
$4,000,000 by the architectural firm of Smith Hinchman & Grylls, the 100-room
Tudor-revival style mansion is carefully preserved with original family
furnishings and art. Listed on national and state registers of historic sites
Listed as one of the top three Classic Car Shows in the world, Meadow Brooks
Concours d'Elegance will celebrate its 23rd year with a variety of events
including the antique and classic car exhibition, golf tournament, designer
fashion show luncheon and historic races which is now part of the spectacular
festivities that began as a car-lover's dream in 1978.
The Tour d'Elegance is in its fourth year as an added attraction to provide
activities for local and visiting Sports and Classic Car enthusiast.
