I posted this to the Alpine/Tiger groups too:
I know of two early style 1953-55 Alpines for sale. One is mine. A 1955
Mark III Sunbeam Alpine, Ivory and Red, in very solid and straight
condition, needing restoration, missing a few items that I have found
readily available in the UK, $2,500 (my car, not the parts). The other is
a Mark I Sunbeam Alpine - I don't know if it's a 53 or 54. It was in the
process of being restored when the owner, Ole Olson, passed away. For
those of you who know Ole's blue one with the Volvo engine, this is NOT
that one. This one is green, with the Sunbeam engine. The paint is brand
new. I don't know yet if all the parts are there. But, when he showed it
to me last year, there were lots of new parts waiting to be installed. So,
I suspect most if not all are there. The engine and transmission were all
installed, and a brand new wiring harness was there. He looked like he was
taking care to do a very nice job. His widow, Joan, is asking $8,000. The
car is in San Diego.
I've been meaning to get down there to help Joan figure out whether it's
complete or not, but just haven't been able to with the new baby. I will
most definitely be there by October 22, when we are going down for the
Coronado classic car races and Sea World (or LegoLand). If someone is
interested and needs me to take a look sooner, I just might take a day off
of work and drive down.
Now, here's the real deal. I'd love to buy Joan's car if I had the money
available. If someone would buy mine, I'd see if I had enough to buy
Joan's, which I still might not have. But if someone does buy Joan's
first, mine is coming off of the market!
You can contact me about my car, and you can contact Joan about hers at
oldealp@aol.com.
