When I was redoing the snake's hydraulics I had to replace all of the
cylinder mounting bolts because the old ones were in such poor
condition. I wasn't sure which of the above type they were so I took
them to Mike O'Connor (local MG specialist) who identified them and
order duplicates from Moss. When I received the new bolts, I thought
Moss had sent the wrong nuts. They appeared to be identical to the old
squeeze-lock hex head type, but they wouldn't screw on to either the new
or old bolts; or so I thought. It turned out it wasn't a thread
mis-match, just very poor machining. I was able to get a pretty good
fit by lapping the threads with valve grinding compound but I never felt
comfortable enough to use them. I ended up substituting equivalent SAE
fasteners.
Unless Moss' quality control on these fasteners has improved
dramatically in the past couple of years, I would stick with Chip's
first recommendation.
