The original engine in my 66 MGB is getting very tired (137,000
miles) and as I have a spare 18V motor I would like to rebuild this
to a "fast road" specification for regular use.
Does any one have an "ideal" specification for such an engine,
knowledge of where I would find one or experiences I could learn from?
The only thing I have is a series of four articles by Dave Vizard in
"Cars and Car Conversions" back in early 1979. He recommends an
overbore to 83.5 mm, Lotus Cortina flat top pistons, 10.6:1
compression, modified head in the valve seat area with British
Leyland 714 cam and 1.75 inch SU's.
I would like to use either standard 1.5 or 1.75 inch SU's as I already
have a pair of both, I also want the engine to idle and be
reasonably tractable and economical. We have 96 octane leaded gas
here at present but while I am at it I want to modify the head for
unleaded gas - 95-96 octane. We have NO emission regulations.
Any help would be much appreciated.
