BCD is actually run by the Chesapeake Chapter of the New England MG 'T'
Register, of which Len Renkenberger is Chairman. It is held every June
at Allen Pond Park, in Bowie, Maryland., and attracts 600 - 800 cars
every year and a huge number of flea market vendors.
A show of that size requires an incredible amount of organization and a
huge number of workers, all of whom are volunteers from the Chesapeake
Chapter and other local BritCar clubs. The organizational side of it has
been handled by pretty much the same core group of people for many years,
headed by Len and Ruth Renkenberger. That core group is, I suspect,
getting tired of doing it year after year. In addition, it is getting
more and more difficult to muster enough volunteer help, so those who do
volunteer (the sdame people year after year) end up having to work harder
each year. It's gotten to the point where we can't get any free time
just to enjoy the show.
As a result there was talk last year of the Chesapeake Chapter giving it
up, hopefully to be turned over to some other BritCar club (or group of
clubs) in the area. I haven't heard that a final decision has been made,
but I'm no longer very active in the Chapter so my only source of info is
the newsletter (and no final decision has been announced there).
I'll give Renk a call and see what I can find out. Stay tuned.
