OK, all of this Land Rover stuff is killling me. I have ALWAYS
loved the 88's, and whatever else looks like them. First, I must admit
that I don't know my Land Rovers at all. I am just curious -- really,
how reliable are they? I have a rusty'76 TR6 that I drive EVERYWHERE. I
also have a pretty decent '67 MGB GT that needs a few little things to
get back on the road (I'm at school now and don't have the $ to keep both
on the road just now).
Anyway, I'll be graduating next May and will need something to
move myself around in. Is a "Landy" going to start every day like my
TR6? Which is the "best" (ie most reliable, least prone to "decay,"
etc....) model Landy?
And, perhaps most importantly, is even a glimmer of a chance that
somebody might trade a nice one for my TR6 (yeah, *very* rusty but solid
frame and drive train: 77000 miles, fiberglass hardtop) and B GT (needs
second gear synchro -- though I may have a 4 synchro gearbox to go w/it,
hydraulics rebuilt or replaced, proper exhaust, rear end replaced [slight
whine, I have a used axle for it, just haven't put it on], etc... Slight
rust, too, but floors are solid, and 99% of what's visible is good metal
or nicely repaired. Tight motor, etc... interior could use a bitof
attention).
Yes, I know, that's a lot to ask. And Please, take pity; excuse my
confusion if there is any...
        I guess I'm just curious.  I have always loved the things;
remember seeing one as a boy and thinking "Gosh, neat; a tire on the
hood." And even now, I can't help teasing my Jeep-driving buddy about
how he could've bought a Land Rover. "But the tires are so skinny...."
"Yeah, exactly," I say. Gotta love 'em...

        Thanks guys (and gals!),

PS -- Anybody know anything about that place in Canada that advertised
ex-British Army Landy's (gas motor, LHD, etc...) a year or two back? I
saw an ad in Hemmings. Seems to me they were 1980's models or so.
Around two or three grand apiece, maybe? Thanks again...
