Well, crew. You knew I could not resist calling about the $695 MGB. It
supposedly has 32K original miles, hardtop and softtop, wire wheels, and
some spare parts. The car is at a salvage yard; the owner says the car
was parked (apparently outside) for at least 7 yrs while the owner decided
he would never get around to restoring it. According to the salvage yard
operator, the engine runs, but the car is beyond driving. The floors and
sills are shot, the carpets are shot, and the rest of the interior is fair
to good.
I am not afraid to put new sills and floors in a B. I figure, however,
that there is likely to be more to it than that--at least all new brakes,
etc. The question I have for you, to which I need answers fairly quickly,
is this: if I were fool enough to buy this and bring it home, and
discover that it really was beyond reasonable salvation, would the engine,
transmission, and other salvagable parts be worth $695 and the pain of
disassembling and selling them?
Or should I just look, smile, and forget it?
