Hmm, Rocker Welding --- sounds like heavy metal...

My MGB that wasn't supposed to be mine is gradually approaching the "paint
me" stage, but a final small repair is in order. I've cut out a small
piece of the rocker panel that was damaged and subsequently rusted, and
hope to get new metal on there in the next day or so. But, hey, this is
my first attempt at sheet-metal repair, and I'd like to know the easiest
way to go about this:

Can I successfully MIG-weld on a new patch (I'm using the "Pocket MIG" from
Daytona), or will I not be able to keep it from burning through? Would I
be more successful by just brazing this in? It doesn't have to be
artistic; I'll smooth it out with a grider and then plastic before
painting.

The *real* goal is to just get this MGB back on the road so I can get back to
work on the TR6, the *real* man's car. Oh, that reminds me:

For stereo, or even mono-types, I only partly fit the picture:
Anglo - check
Macho - not likely
middle-aged - Hmm, not quite; but my idea of when middle-age starts keeps
              getting older...
BUT - my *first* car was an LBC, and my second (both GT6's); I wandered off
through a couple of Z-cars, but got back on track with a couple of
Spitfires, and finally a TR6... and then there's this MG that I somehow
acquired...
