Midget misses at 55-60mph

A friend called me and her 78 Midget is misfiring at 55mph-60mph. She had
this problem in April, and it gradually got worse, until she took it into
'the local import garage. They 'fixed' it by cleaning the starter motor lead ???
But, she said it worked fine after that???

Any ideas what it may be. I've been half following the TR6 missing story....what
was the deal there??
