If you have a clutch plate limited slip diff, such as the Salisbury, ZF
and others, the GM "positraction lube" (also available from Sta-Lube,
among others) will quiet it down. It does this at least in part by
allowing the plates to slip more easily - the crunch/pop noise you hear
is the plates releasing and grabbing again.

RedLine makes a series of diff lubes, some of which are specifically
for this style of LSD and already have the additive in. They make one
variant, specifically for racing, which is called 80w140NS - the NS
means "no slip". This variant does NOT have the additive in it ...
