Marcus Tooze,
I had the same clutch problem with a 1972 Lotus Elan Sprint that
belonged to a customer of mine. We solved the problem by pushstarting the
car in second gear, depressing the clutch pedal, and then accelerating and
decelerating rapidly (making one's neck snap back and forth whiplash style)
numerous times until the clutch broke free. Best of luck.
