There was a thread here this week on 3 point seat belts. Normally I would
have just stayed in Lurk-Mode and let this pass as not being applicable to a
1938 MG-TA and thought to myself, "Well I did compromise and install a Lap
belt, so there". Well it is now 10 days after I almost bought the store in
the TA: While cruising down Hwy 29 in Napa at about 50 Mph (55 mph zone), a
73 4-door Chevy pulls right out in front of me doing a left turn and I had no
time to react. T-boned him right behind the rear door. Completely wiped out
the front end of the TA, which had just gotten a 3rd Place, PreWar category,
at the Calgary Gathering of the Faithful while doing 3200 top down, flawless
miles up there and back, and I took the Brooklands right into the chest
breaking my Sternum.
Fortunately, that is all besides a few scrapes and bruises and a bloody nose.
The other driver? I never saw him, he did not come over to see if I was
alright, had no insurance, and was driving on a suspended license wouldn't you
know! The parametics took me out of the TA on a back board w/neck restraint
and on the the ER.
So what is the thrust of this tome? One: don't use large Acorn Nuts to hold
your Brooklands steering wheel on to its boss Two: consider installing or
renewing that 3 point belt in your LBC, I think if I had had one, my hurt
would have been a lot less! Three: don't drive that LBC without "uninsured
motorist coverage"
Moss have 3 point generic belts at a reasonable price. I'm going to install
one. I am mending and the TA will recover also in the hands of the Master:
