Perhaps the more experienced of you may have some advice for a novice
in this matter:
I had been noticing for a while now a certain amount of give on the
brakes of my B, combined with a little drift to the left. Upon removing
the left front tire (the RF caliper was just replaced, so I assumed no
trouble there), I found the pads virtually flush with the rotor--in
fact, the engine side pad _is_ flush and the outward side will barely
allow the thickness of a piece of paper. Which brings me to the first
question: how much piston movement should one normally see in these
situations?
I then tried spinning the rotor, which rotated 2/5 to 1/2 the way
around before halting, and some small effort was required to get it past
this rough area. I am assuming that this is a problem with the rotor
itself, which should be remedied by machining/cleaning, but is there a
chance that a faulty caliper might account for it?
Finally, if I should resort to replacing the caliper, I have heard
that there are rebuild kits available. Assuming I can find one, I still
have no experience in this matter. Might anyone have advice or references
on how to go about this?
Thanks in advance for any advice...
