OFFICE MEMO RE:SU Fuel Pump needs a hit Date:8/3/94
>My Healey has a brand new SU pump. If I leave it for a week without
driving it I have to bang it a good one to get it going EVERY time.
When I rebuilt the pumps on the XJ12 I got 4 new contact points sets from a
reputable source, and all 4 had the same problem, the throw-over function was
not quite right, didn't always work. It was the springs. I had to use needle
nose pliers and very carefully bend the little springs just a little bit more.
So I suspect your new pump has the same points with a slightly out-of-spec
spring. The points are stopping in the open position, the spring is failing to
throwover back to the closed position. Also while you're at it, investigate the
tabs that limit the travel of the points.
