The answers to most of your questions are available right here on the
British cars list. There is available to you absolutely free the vast
experience and expertise of hundreds of lbc crazies. Some of whom are
(what was it TeriAnn said? Oh yeah..) Authenticity Nazis. You'll
probably get a dozen responses to each of your questions.

Also there's a good book on TR3's available at your local bookseller.
The Original TR, by Bill Piggot gives lots of details on the TR2-4
range. Mostly it's about cars still in the home market, but the US
versions are essentially the same.

Be prepared, however, for the eternal truth of restoration.
No matter how many books you read, or how many people you talk to, or
how many finished, or even original, cars you look at, the answer to your
question about the component you're working on at that moment will
elude you. The answer to that question will become readily available
only AFTER you've either given up and replaced the component, or
finished it another (read; non original) way. At which point the
elusive answer will switch to the component you are NOW working on. An
answer which you will swear you saw somewhere, but just can't remember
where. This is why copius quantities of stout are usually consumed
during any restoration process.
