Everything you've ever heard about UPS is true...but they're
the ONLY way to get parts shipped from the UK. They're remarkably
quick, reasonably cheap, and they front you the customs charges
and bill you for them by mail later, with no added fee.
For contrast, the Royal Mail -> US Post Office route
synergistically combines the incompetence of two nationalized
postal services, and the mediocrity of the resultant service is
greater than the sum of the two. It can easily take a month or
more, then you get a yellow slip in your mailbox saying "please
come pay us the customs charges and pick up your parcel". With a
$5.00 fee added for some disgusting reason.
When I got my GT6 gearbox from Kipping's in Coventry, it arrived
on my doorstep in 6 days, and I was billed by mail for the customs.
That was UPS. True, the package looked like it had been run over
by one of those big brown vans...
