re: wonder car
a car that people might ask about at the historics, hmm..
You might consider the first car that Rochelle and I bought as
practical young married folk: a 1953 Jowett Jupiter. Though it is
rear wheel drive it sports a 1.5 liter, water cooled, flat opposed
4 cylinder that sat IN FRONT of the radiator. For lightness down
below it had a tube frame and for sturdyness above it had a top
that seemed to be made of oak 2x2s joined every eight inched by
massive hinges. With the top erect you hardly needed a roll cage,
which is just as well as in those days no body had heard of them
anyway. The appearance was almost as distinctive as the mechanicals.
They won their class at Le Mann that year and also in '50 & '51.
