While I was putting gas in the snake yesterday another customer walked
over to take a look at the car. "MG?", he asked? "Nope", me.
"Healey?". "Nope". "Sprite?" "Nope". Just then his wife returned
from inside the station office. "Cobra!", she said, joining the
conversation. "You got it", I said. "Ah", says he, "what year?".
"'64", I said. "I have a '46 MG TC", he responded. To which I
responded "I once had a TD." "Me too", he replied.

At this point a little bell rang in the cranial belfry (no bat jokes
please). "Is that your TC in the driveway over on Kenyon", I asked.
"Yes, it is."

Some of you long time list members may recall the TC I remarked on a
couple of years ago. It's been rotting away in a driveway a few blocks
from my house for years. I've long been meaning to knock on the door to
find out what the owner planned to do with this car. The paint has
pretty much oxidized to the primer, the tires are flat and rust spots
are showing through the chrome. It's really a pity because the car
looks pretty straight, just badly neglected. I'm not really interested
in another project, but I thought, "what the hell" and asked him what he
was going to do with it. He told me that he had driven it from Monterey
(on the coast about 50 miles away) in 1976 and had parked it where it
sits in his driveway and hadn't moved it since. His plan was to
"restore it someday". I talked to him a bit more hoping to pump up his
enthusiasm a bit, but I don't think I made much headway. To tell the
truth his wife seemed to have far more enthusiasm, and, if I was reading
things correctly, was a bit disgusted at his lack of it.
