Well, southern Ontario is at long last coming out of the freeze. I've
been thinking back on the good ol' days in New Zealand and wondering why
I love Canada so much. Really, for sports cars I sucks!
BUT, then I got to thinking. In old N.Z. the flowers and the birds were
always there, the temperature was always much the same (compared to here)
and live trundled on.
Compare this to the excitement of watching the thaw begin, of the first
green haze of the unfolding leaves, of shedding all that clothing and
walking out into the sun and feeling the warmth. Perhaps we don't take it
all for granted. come those few precious months we really LIVE and ENJOY.
There's really nothing I can think of (well maybe one thing) that is
quite like the first spring drive when the TR3 comes out of hybernation.
It's a total experience of the feeling of the steering, the smell of the
oil, the sights of those wings rising up from the low end of the doors,
the sound of the exhaust note. I smile a silly smile until my face is
sore ! Every year !
I'm not sure if that would happen in a country where the changes are less
severe. THis year was a bad winter for a lot of North America, and other
areas had the flooding and earth quakes. THese are disasters that shake
us out of our complacency abourt nature. The living , year in and year
out, within the cycle of the seasons does something else to the soul.
Maybe the moments when everything is just right grab us and say BE HERE
AND NOW .. JUST IN THIS MOMENT !
Well, that's my thought for the day. I'm going hopw to rebiuld a slave
cylinder. That's another good way to get lost in the moment.
There's never been a shortage of reality. We can afford to set it aside
for a time each day.
