When I was a youngun' I had a Cortina GT MkII. The struts had died and I
needed to rebuild them, To compress the springs I had a couple of friends
sit on the fenders to mash them down while I tied them with wire coat
hangers in three places. I jacked the car up and removed the springs. When
I replaced them, I lowered the car onto the compressed springs and cut the
coat hangers. Hey, it was cheap and it worked.
