Kevin suggests...
{You might want to consider a Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical port fuel injection
{system. They are extremely common for 4-bangers, and can be found in junkyards
{on most VW Rabbits and others. It is an extremely flexible system, and probably
{will be the simplest to set up.

The K-jet system is the very definition of simplicty, no ECU whatsoever.
However, this simplicity does have a high price. These systems run at a
very high fuel pressure to actuate the mechanical injectors; 70psi
coming off the pump, 50psi in the system. If you break a fuel hose,
you've immediately got a ton of fuel squirting all over the place. I
got so nervous about this system in my '74 Volvo 142 that it was one of
the primary reasons I sold it. You find yourself thinking about this
sort of stuff when you're carting your kids around.
