It could be the rocker shaft, but then it could still be the oil pump!
I'm in the midst of replacing the oil pump on my '64 B.

My MGB's symptoms were that my oil pressure (when hot) was a bit
low (5 psi + 10psi/1000 rpm) and the oil pressure began bouncing
about all of a sudden at ~40 psi.

The good news was that the big end bearings were in perfect shape!
This won't stop me from replacing them, but it does make me happy
that I won't need to regrind the crankshaft (and remove the motor).

The smoking gun was a oil pump, whose business end looked like:
(*** indicates large cracks in the outer rotor, ie. the outer
rotor was in five pieces).

I have an new MGA/3mainMGB oil pump ready to go in, all I need
to do is replace the big end bearings. Hopefully I can get to
that tonight or tomorrow morning.

My 3 Main Bearing engine block appears to be carefully painted
red thoughout the INSIDE of the crankcase. Is this MG original,
or the work of a Previous Owner?
