I just took apart my MGA gas gauge to clean the sand out of it. Knowing
how it seems to work might help you adjust it. The B's might be
similiar. The needle has a small piece of metal behind it. This piece of
metal is drawn to the left or right by two small electomagnets on each
side. As the resistance to ground changes the magnets pull the needle.
On the back of the gauge are two small nuts. Loosen them slightly and
you can slide the magnets back and forth to adjust the pull on the
needle.

My gauge had not worked for years and I discovered a poor ground on the
case of the unit.
