The following was posted by SOL member Ed Devinney about 1 year ago. I filed
it away in the hopes that it would be needed someday. I currently have a parts
doner Jensen Healey that I would like to see brought back to life some day
with an aluminum V8 under the hood. One of these days.........

Gee, you want to dump the best part of a JH, the 907! Actually, the original
Lotus 907 engines were "beta tested" in the JH. When Lotus got the motor
right they put it into their own cars! :-)
I can't tell from the context of your post whether your JH already has a V8,
or you're just planning to dump the 907. (I'll gladly intercept the motor
on it`s way to the trash! :-)
But seriously, you can update a 907 to current spec and get from 140 to over
200 hp, (normally aspirated) depending on your wallet. Just by recurving
the distributor and converting from Strombergs to Dellorto's can make a
world of difference. (used Dellotros, manifold, & airbox ~= $500.) Next,
you can get into a variety of cams, and finally there's stroker kits &
pistons (from 2 to 2.2 liters).
I know about the "no substitute for cubes" thing, but it`s all in what you
want. (I like the "sportscar" wind the motor past 7 grand thing with an
intoxicating exhaust note to go with it. Others prefer low rev, high torque,
'merican V8 rumble... ) Even though the
Interceptor did the latter, I think the JH is more along the lines of the
former approach.
If you're interested, I can refer you to someone very knowledable with
907's that owns a JH (Richie, speak up if you read this group!) or you
can join the Lotus newsletter and discuss further.
Either way, enjoy!
