|Subj: Re: 1500 spitfire gearbox going into midget
------------------------------------------------------------------
I was emailing with Tim Dziechowski yesterday about fitting a
spitfire 1500 gearbox into a midget 1500. He mentioned that when he did
the same swap, the only problem was the shift stick ended up in the
wrong direction. I checked it out and I couldn't figure out how to make
the shift lever end up the right way, it needs to be rotated 180
degrees. the problem is that there are two pins on opposite sides of
the hole where the shift lever goes in. One pin extends into the hole
and fits a slot on the bottom of the shift lever. I can take out the
pin that fits in the slot on the lever, but I couldn't get the other one
out. It looks like if I can get the other pin out, they would swap real
easy. I hit it with a small drift a few times from the inside and
outside, but it wouldn't move.
So, if I can't get these pins out or rotate the top of the shift
lever 180 deg. I either have to use the spitfire shift lever (not a bad
option, it would be something different), or switch the rear extension.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm planning on swapping the
gearboxes tommorrow.
thanks,
Dean
