Hey all,
I've been lurking on the list for a while, looking for a LBC. Well,
I may have found the one in the form of a 1970 GT6+. I wasn't really
planning on buying a car just yet, but it seems this is just about what
I've been looking for. I looked at it over the weekend and agreed in
principle to purchase it for $975 on Wednesday. (The guy is out of town
till then)
It has been garaged for the last three years since the owner quit
drinking, smoking pot, and driving fast. The body is rough, but no rust
I could identify in the obvious places. The interior is a bit rough as well.
The engine fired right up and settled into a smooth idle after replacing the
battery. It smoked for a bit until it was driven a few blocks, then no
smoke. It has good oil pressure, 10k on a rebuilt engine with mild cam
grind, big valves, 6 into 1 header, big carbs (look like stock, but they are
175's, whatever that means) freshly rebuilt trans with TR7 1st and 2nd gear,
suspension work, relatively fresh diff (he said he'd gone through 2), etc.
The front end seemed like it needed a bit of work, (I could feel a
little play by grabbing a front wheel and wiggling it.)
He had a bunch of spares, 2 extra hatch lids, new front rotors, bunch of
interior stuff, a dash, extra (the rubber things that act like outboard rear
U-joints) , door, etc.
So, it seemed like a pretty good deal to me. I wasn't looking for a bone
stock car, but something I could modify to my tastes and drive.
Well, has anybody in the Seattle area looked at this car by chance?
Is there anything I should check out on the car before handing over the
cash? It seemed like I could spend a couple weekends on it and have a
daily driver.
